Thieves Alley

Dunedin is a rather weird and wonderful place. Today was the annual Thieves Alley where people of all types crowded into the main street. There were people wandering around in olden day dress, steam punk, and everything else in between. The last time I was crammed in this close with so many people was on a metro train in Paris!

Chinese Gardens framed

On a recent visit to the Dunedin Chinese gardens with my friend Deb, we spotted these wonderful framed portals out into the outside world. I loved the contrast of the old buildings with the ornate frame.

Reservoir hut

I walk past this little walkway out to a little hut suspended over the water in the reservoir every week. Not once have I wondered why it is there or what is done inside this little room. Now my mind is running away with ideas and possibilities - a secret base for the Thunderbirds? Maxwell Smart's entrance to his underground lair?

Carisbrook

The old ticketing booth at the 'house of pain' which I suppose will not see use again now that it has been replaced with a shiny new stadium...

Weekend walking

Random iphone images from my weekend walk. We walk across a bridge and down a path to wander around a reservoir then back down the path, out on the road past this marvelous old house which I am told used to be a corner shop that a certain little boy used to visit in his horse and cart (kidding).

Thoughtful and the mighty heart

Last night I got to see Thoughtful and the Mighty Heart play for the first time and it was a treat. My Z is a talented drummer.

Today was graduation day. I now have a Masters in Education. It was wonderful that my three kids could all be there, I'm a very lucky girl. Josh was the official photographer for the day :)

Mr Sterile Assembly

My friend Chrissie was in Dunedin this weekend with her partner who together form the punk duo Mr Sterile Assembly. They spoke at the Glue gallery and I loved it! They had asked all their artist friends if anyone wanted to create some artwork inspired by their music, and the result was a room full of art with the lyrics of the songs and then wonderful stories told Mr Sterile linking the artwork, the story behind the work and the music.

Walking at Ross Creek

This week the brace came off and today I managed to walk one whole lap of the Ross Creek Reservoir without brace or crutches! Feeling like I'm almost there, finally.

Clear

It was an incredibly clear morning, it all looked so calm. This is the view from the back deck of my house looking out to St Clair Beach.

Harbour cone

The harbour cone on the Otago Harbour, Dunedin's volcano. I prefer cookies and cream myself.

A nice place to walk

I take myself off for a walk each day to escape the computer screen, you couldn't ask for a nicer path to follow than this one.

Walking at St Clair Beach

I went for a nice long walk yesterday and only had my iphone with me, but this scene looked perfect.

Gone but not forgotten

I went for a walk through the local cemetery. This cemetery has not been used for decades, however it is lovely to see that people still bring flowers.

Ireland versus Italy

We had a photo walk in Dunedin today organsed by Mike McQueen. There were plenty of interesting things to photograph in the Octagon as it was the day for the Italy versus Ireland RWC game. There was a sea of green, with only one or two blue clad Italian supporters sighted. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me so was reduced to the iPhone, but it was fun watching what other photographers were capturing, the photos they saw and made, and the settings they used.

Argentina versus England

The rugby world cup has come to Dunedin. I may not be interested in the game at all, but the atmosphere in town was quite fun.

St Clair poles in the afternoon

I treated myself to a walk along the beach this afternoon to finish the working week.
