Garden

I have a thesis due soon. When I get overwhelmed I find other things to do like chop down trees and tidy up the garden. A friend said to me, "You would live in a jungle if you didn't have deadlines". Funny.

Berries

The beautiful weather continues and I have been getting into the garden. I quite like how the shape of the berries are reflected in bokeh.

Glorious

It was a glorious day in Dunedin. I was wandering around my neighbourhood with my camera and couldn't resist laying down in the grass amongst the flowers looking out to the harbour.

Jamming

The day was too nice to be inside for band practice, so today's practice was held at the bottom of the garden.

Cat

This is my next door neighbour's cat. You just have to wonder what cats are thinking ...

Clear

It was an incredibly clear morning, it all looked so calm. This is the view from the back deck of my house looking out to St Clair Beach.

Boys will be boys

The boys were out on the trampoline yesterday. Of course, the trampoline was just the springboard for launching yourself into trees.

Standing out

Sometimes you just feel like you are the only brown house in a grey world. (Either I am being very philosophical, or I was playing with Photoshop and have nothing of interest to say about this image - you choose.)

Harbour cone

The harbour cone on the Otago Harbour, Dunedin's volcano. I prefer cookies and cream myself.

Another perfect morning

Every morning is a perfect morning in its own way. I am very lucky to be blessed with this view each day in all of its various moods.

St Clair

I love this mural at St Clair beach. It was painted by Lyndsay Crooks who sadly passed away a few years ago. I love the sense of fun and summer in his work.

I was dismayed to see this child, who looked about three, crawling around in the hatch area of this car completely unrestrained. How is this still happening?

A nice place to walk

I take myself off for a walk each day to escape the computer screen, you couldn't ask for a nicer path to follow than this one.

One Arm Point

Another photo from my past. This is an Aboriginal community up the top of Western Australia a few hours drive through the bush in a four wheel drive from Broome. Very remote. Was a fantastic trip to stay with my friend Fiona who was teaching there at the time.

Keeping warm

Woke up Saturday morning and the back deck was covered in snow! Strange spring we are having.

Spring just keeps getting better

One more month until summer hits Dunedin, and they forecast snow and I light the fire, much to the delight of Jessica who took up her normal position.

Rainy days

The sun has come and gone, and the raindrops are back. Bring on summer.

I went for a nice long walk yesterday and only had my iphone with me, but this scene looked perfect.

There is something magical about being in Rotorua for a conference.

Owairaka School

I was very lucky today to attend the opening of the Fale at Owairaka School in Auckland. It was an amazing experience. The singing and dancing was awe inspiring, my job was to capture everything on video. Most days I absolutely love my job.

Gone but not forgotten

I went for a walk through the local cemetery. This cemetery has not been used for decades, however it is lovely to see that people still bring flowers.

I took this photo on the last day of the conference as I walked toward the event centre. The light was amazing.

Pukeko

Each morning I walked from my hotel to the convention centre past a family of Pukekos, they are amazing looking birds with such big feet.

ULearn 11 - Rotorua Museum

Ulearn11 has come and gone. This year it was in Rotorua as the venue we normally use is in the red zone of Christchurch. The conference was a huge success as always and everyone I spoke to went away buzzing. My job is to shoot video for the duration of the conference. I captured 35 videos over four days. You will be able to see them on the EDtalks website very shortly. This photo is the Rotorua Museum which is right next door to the convention centre. It is a beautiful building, and the flower gardens on the walk in to work in the mornings were just glorious!

Gardening

The weekend was beautiful. So I decided to take a break from study and do some gardening.

Ireland versus Italy

We had a photo walk in Dunedin today organsed by Mike McQueen. There were plenty of interesting things to photograph in the Octagon as it was the day for the Italy versus Ireland RWC game. There was a sea of green, with only one or two blue clad Italian supporters sighted. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me so was reduced to the iPhone, but it was fun watching what other photographers were capturing, the photos they saw and made, and the settings they used.
